The NTri open water swimming season will start with an Open Water Festival on the 25th May. NTri will be hosting this event in partnership with the Royal Life Saving Society.
As part of the festival is an aquathlon, which is open to kids from age 8 upwards and will be a target event in our annual NTri Shield.
The RLSS UK Open Water Festival aims to introduce open water activities to the reservoir at Sywell Country Park, all delivered within a supportive atmosphere and an accredited framework that keeps participants safe.
Sywell Country Park is a former drinking water reservoir that is now a Country Park run by Northamptonshire County Council.
Available during the festival will be:
- 1600 Swim
- 800m swim
- 800m swim/5km run Aquathlon
- Junior Swim/Run (various distances)
With a support programme of activities provided by RLSS UK, Northamptonshire Sport (NSport), and Northants Triathlon (NTri).
Events are particularly suitable for entrants (both adults and children) who are new to open water and who need support in their preparation and participation.
The Events and Prices
The Aquathlon combines two of the elements found in Triathlon (Swim and Run) leaving out the cycle section. Typically it’s an early season stepping stone for anyone wanting a challenge beyond swimming in open water and perhaps thinking about Triathlon. Like Triathlon, your time starts as you enter the water and only stops when you cross the finish after your run, so a quick transition from swimming to running is important if you want to record a fast time.
